The preparation of a local history atlas of the Lviv agglomeration with monuments on the territory of all its communities is an interesting step in the work of the Association of Local Self-Government Bodies (hereinafter referred to as the LGB) “Lviv Agglomeration”. This work was primarily carried out by historians. However, all those who were interested and concerned could join this work by answering the questions of a short questionnaire.

This atlas will be interactive, supplemented and updated, notes Iryna Telegiy, project manager of the association’s executive directorate. At the same time, the information collected will also form the basis for preparing promotional materials for the agglomeration’s communities, increasing their tourist attractiveness, and planning weekend routes and school excursions next year.

The recently established Association of Local Governments “Lviv Agglomeration” has identified one of the priority areas of its activity as the study and popularization of the uniqueness and common history of the communities that are part of it. Already this summer, within the framework of the project “Strengthening Good Democratic Governance in the Lviv Agglomeration” with the support of the Council of Europe within the framework of the Program “Strengthening Good Democratic Governance and Resilience in Ukraine”, one-day local history camps were organized in the communities. As a result, almost half a thousand schoolchildren visited neighboring communities and got acquainted with their historical and natural attractions. After all, each community of our Lviv Agglomeration is special in its own way. And together they all create the uniqueness of the region in which we live. Common history and culture are what unites us. And that is why now, in times of war, it is very important to pay attention to the study and support of our heritage, to be attentive to the history of our surroundings, to take care of the preservation and continuation of current traditions. This is what the local history atlas of the communities living nearby will be dedicated to.
