Lviv agglomeration in 2024 – results and plans for the future

We honored the Hero who came back from the war on a shield… This is how the general meeting of the Lviv Agglomeration Association of Local Governments began. To prevent such sad events from happening in Lviv, Horodok, Zhovtantsi or Bibrka (and all other Ukrainian cities and towns), and to ensure that we can happily meet living soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, we are working to help the army and ensure stability in the rear. We’ll leave the details of military projects out of the story… Details about other projects, the results of 2024, and plans for the next year are below.

At the general meeting of the Lviv Agglomeration Association, they evaluated the work for the year and planned for wider cooperation in 2025. As a reminder, Lviv Agglomeration’s strategy has three main goals:

1. quality of life

2. competitiveness;

3. community cohesion and resilience.

In 2024, the Lviv agglomeration took place as a phenomenon with the support of the Council of Europe. It is significant that this European institution accompanied the process of community amalgamation in the format of a metropolis and helped implement the first initiatives in the European mainstream. “We are very grateful to the Council of Europe for their support, they helped us take the first steps. Thanks to them, we managed to organize important events, such as an international forum, summer camps for children, a fair of local and craft products from the communities of the Lviv agglomeration, create a local history atlas, and other activities. But in general, this year is a year of self-study for us, because no one in Ukraine has ever been involved in metropolitan development,” said Roman Kizyma, Executive Director of the Lviv Agglomeration Association.

It is noteworthy that the association seeks funds for common projects from sponsors so that communities do not waste their budgets. That is why the association continues to cooperate with donors, which means grant support for the implementation of joint proposals for the quality and comfort of living of residents of all communities and the development of the agglomeration as a whole.

Projects in the areas of logistics and transport infrastructure development, ecology, education, healthcare, and youth policy will be the focus of our attention next year. In addition, systematic cooperation will be established between the structural units of local communities participating in the agglomeration in certain areas to share experiences and implement best practices.

From the administrative news of the meeting: the new co-chair of the association is the head of the Velykolyubinska community, Yosyp Fabryha (the heads of all communities are elected in turn in alphabetical order – all have influence on decisions). The first co-chairman was previously the mayor of Bibrka, Roman Hrynus.
